Good morning and welcome to our amazing Community! We have a special AMA with the DAppRadar team! It is my pleasure to introduce to you @dragos_018 and @JamieBodkin.
Hi Dragos and Jamie, thank you for joining us today! Could you please kindly share a quick introduction about yourselves as well as a brief overview about DappRadar?

Hey everyone, thanks for having me, I’m really looking forward to taking part in this session.

Dragos
I’m Dragos, one of the co-founders of DappRadar. Been in the gaming space for a lot of time now and soon after we’ve noticed CryptoKitties, we have jumped over the blockchain space.
DappRadar is a leading Dapp Store platform co-founded with my friend Skirmantas in 2017. We’re essentially a one-stop shop for decentralised apps — a place to discover, gain insight on, and manage dapps from across different categories, protocols, and asset classes, ranging from NFTs, to Decentralised Finance (DeFi), Gaming and more.
DappRadar differs from traditional app stores in that you not only passively discover dapps and top-performing tokens, but can also manage your portfolio and trade your digital assets on-site. We offer our users the opportunity to react immediately — be that swapping tokens, trading NFTs or purchasing with fiat — to the insights we provide, all from one easy to use platform.

Alright let’s jump right into the first segment of today’s AMA! Our first question for you !
Tell us a few things about DAppRadar. How it started and what was your vision?
Dragos
DappRadar’s first version was launched around 3 years ago, as said above, months after CryptoKitties resounding success, in 2018. Me and Skirmantas, the other co-founder, were active in the gaming space where we were working with in-game skins platforms, very similar to today’s NFTs. After we saw CryptoKitties and learned more about smart contracts characteristics, it immediately clicked and we understood the opportunity.
We were keen to go beyond CryptoKitties and discover more, but there were no places available to discover more active dapps, so over a weekend we have built the initial version and it became the first platform that was tracking the on-chain activity of dapps by looking at the number of active wallets, volume and transactions. I would like to say that we had that long term vision of what this industry will become, but in reality it was our curiosity and desire to explore and learn more about dapps that led us to build DappRadar.

That’s incredible foresight into what our industry is today. It takes a certain understanding to even posses that curiosity and desire to explore the unknown in a very thriving young industry.
What do you consider to be the most tangible use case of blockchain that will shape the future?
Dragos
This is a very broad question if we talk about blockchain in general, which has yet underdiscoverd number of use cases, in my opinion. The most common use cases are obviously cryptocurrencies and smart contracts, and as soon as I’m mentioning smart contracts we can go down the rabbit hole.
We’ll see a lot of industries being impacted by the blockchain, like finance, entertainment (music, gaming, etc.), logistics and many others. Actually we’re already seeing this today.
But I believe that the first most tangible use cases will most probably be in the financial sector and gaming industry, as we can already see the development and adoption of blockchain in those areas and big corporations trying to absorb as much knowledge as they can and be active in this industry.

What are your views of the Oasis Protocol and what plans do you have for a collaboration?
What really excites me is the next generation of DApps, the ones we can’t even imagine in todays society much like our Apps today would blow our minds before the inception of the modern internet.
Dragos
This is a good question. I think Oasis Protocol is a very smart approach towards data tokenization and privacy focused product. I’m excited to see how that will enable users to control their data and also to directly benefit from the data either by monetizing it or by having the ability to use DeFi services based on their reputation. I surely love my privacy, so seeing protocols taking this approach is always exciting.
We hope that our collaboration will help DappRadar to offer our users an even wider range of privacy-first dapps and also to educate users on the importance of their own data and how they can use it to their advantage.

There is real disruptive use cases with DeFi when you add privacy, life changing and fair changes to those around the world that need access to these types of advancements in Finance.

What are your thoughts on NFTs? Have you purchased any?
Dragos
As mentioned earlier, CryptoKitties was the trigger for jumping in and building DappRadar in the first place, and also coming from a gaming background, my interest in NFTs is high. We’ve put a lot of emphasis on NFTs since day one and we have continued doing so even when we were told that NFTs are dead or they’ll never be a thing (multiple times in the past 3 years) and we should focus on other verticals.
NFTs will be (already are) adopted by a lot of industries, either for their economical aspect or for their social aspect. Industries like music, fashion, food, gaming or finance are already adopting NFTs for creating in-game economies, marketing campaigns or user loyalty programs. NFTs are a very powerful tool in the right hands with the right ideas.
I have surely purchased NFTs, starting with a CryptoKitty back in 2018. In the meantime, I’ve kept collecting NFTs in different categories, like art, sports, games and others.

What are your thoughts about data tokenization, one of Oasis key pillars?
Dragos
Data tokenization is an area I’d like to explore more, because I find it fascinating. The way Oasis is aiming to use it is super interesting and as soon as the users will have the full understanding of the fact that they can control what they share with the outside world and that they can monetize their own data, this will attract a lot of interest.
Also regarding the previous question, the mix of data tokenization and NFTs is a great match as NFTs will be the perfect vehicle for storing data and trade it.
Also, as a data provider, DappRadar is also seriously exploring dapp data tokenization and we believe that this sector will keep growing over the coming years and more and more people will be interested in contributing to this data market.

It’s absolutely mind blowing what we are doing with NFT’s! 🤯 We are once again taking something incredible (like blockchain) and adding Privacy within Data unlike anyone else in the industry.

Hey! We have recently released new features in the Portfolio tracker which are allowing users to trade NFTs and tokens directly in the portfolio. Any user can see all his NFT holdings, token holdings and all the dapps used.

What major partnerships does DAppRadar intend to use or how does DAppRadar bring its products to the average consumer — especially non-crypto users?

Hello, this is a good question. We have a lot of educational content on our platform and we’re focusing a lot on user experience and ease of use. The aim is to allow anybody to understand the blockchain industry and to explore dapps across most important protocols.

Were there any other competitors that you considered prior to Oasis? And what value do you believe Oasis Network brings to your partnership that sets them apart from their competitors?

There is no one close to The Oasis Network that provides the level of technical capabilities, professionalism and reputable business success. 😎

DappRadar have a feature of NFT Value Estimator. Please tell how does it work? How realistic is the price that DappRadar gives for the NFTs? Do you plan to add more NFT series in your system?

Our team did a great job with this one. We’re using a machine learning algorithm to analyze all the assets in a collection. The algorithm takes in consideration all the past sales, attributes and rarity to estimate the value of an NFT. The results are very promising. We are planning to add all the major NFT collections.

Currently the technology is changing every second, is DAppRadar afraid in the future its project will be lagging behind new projects with newer technology? Does DAppRadar have a plan for this?

How has the work and experience of your colleagues contributed to the success of DappRadar, and do you also offer training on how to monitor Dapp projects and collect information? It is true, we are located in Lithuania, but we’re a distributed team. We have colleagues all over the world and we’re a fully remote working company. Everyone is welcome to join our channels where we have education sessions, we share a lot of insights about the industry and also our blog is full with educational content. Also our community is always ready to answer any questions and help guide new users.

Good one, you’ve read the interview. We are always focusing on delivering new products and features and stay relevant in this market that is moving very fast. We are always trying to be one step ahead and make sure we are offering our users the right tools and platform to achieve their goals and to discover the most relevant dapps.

The main benefit a dapp developer gets for listing their dapps on DappRadar is huge exposure and access to our network. As mentioned above, we’re sending over 1M users to dapps on a monthly basis, so we help dapps to be distributed. Along with that, we have multiple big partners like wallets, block explorers, media websites that are integrating our data sources, therefore the exposure is much bigger than just our platform.
Plus, the developer dashboard offers deeper technical analsys for dapps like failed transactions vs successful transactions, smart contract calls and other technical metrics.

Covid-19 has a bad impact in almost every sector. So, as a crypto projects how did it affect you? How you and your team have done the work in the pandemic?

We had to close our office down in San Francisco and that was really hard for some of our local developer team workers, many of them packed up and moved out of the city to avoid being cooped up and paying insane rent! Many of us are remote workers so it’s more challenging as the time passes for mental health but one thing that keeps us sharp is the community! The encouragement and support from our community has been a life save and I’ll take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for helping us through this tough time.
